Arnel & The Awning

It is often funny what memories stand out the most in one's mind when reflecting upon someone's life.  For me, I remember Arnel made me chuckle once.  That was it - a simple chuckle.  It was a warm day and my mom Emma, my daughter Liana, and I visited Tita Shirley's house in Staten Island.  Tita Shirley had a retractable awning installed outside over her patio.  The awning opened when a level was turned or "cranked" repeatedly.  Tita Shirley asked for Arnel's help to crank open the awning, but turning the lever was a struggle.  Alas, after turning for several minutes, the awning finally opened.  Arnel proclaimed sarcastically, "There.  I just lost 3 pounds."  I have, admitedly, stolen this line and still use it to this day.
